What is Salt Staining? The white crusty residue left on leather after exposure to road salt.
Salt staining occurs when road salt (used to melt ice) contacts leather. The salt draws moisture from the leather and leaves white streaks as it dries. Untreated salt staining damages leather fibers permanently. Remove salt as soon as possible: wipe with a damp cloth, then use a mix of one part white vinegar to two parts water for streaks, then condition the leather to replace lost oils.
