Yaktrax are stretchy rubber-and-metal-coil traction aids worn over normal shoes or boots for ice and snow. They cost about $30, slip on in seconds, and provide dramatic traction improvement on icy sidewalks. Microspikes (Kahtoola Microspikes, Black Diamond Cleats) are similar but more aggressive — better for trail use; Yaktrax are better for urban sidewalks.
